Beaches and boardwalks
History Salvaged has had the privilege of working with several beach and shore towns, boroughs and cities in New Jersey and New York. What began in March of 2012 when the City of Wildwood, NJ agreed by City Council Resolution to provide History Salvaged with Witness Wood® removed during the "off-season" from the Wildwood Boardwalk during annual maintenance, grew into an unexpected opportunity to help raise some funds for various other programs following Superstorm Sandy.
Following Superstorm Sandy, October 29, 2012, we began working with Atlantic City, Asbury Park, Belmar, Ocean City, Point Pleasant Beach, Ocean Gate and Seaside Heights, NJ as they all began clean up and the people of New Jersey began to Restore the Shore.
For example, the Borough of Seaside Heights began a clean up that included securing and removing literally hundreds of thousands of pounds of wood from the destroyed Seaside Heights Boardwalk. As the Borough struggled to recover, History Salvaged was fortunate to be allowed to remove a truckload of not only the “boards” that tourists and locals have walked during Seaside Heights 100 years but the undercarriage and even pilings that were ripped and torn apart by Mother Nature prior to the acres of reclaimed Witness Wood® being trucked to landfills. Additionally, almost 1 year later in September 2013, the Blaze on the Boardwalk destroyed the entire south and of the Seaside Heights Boardwalk and the Seaside Park Boardwalk.
Atlantic City and all the other towns did the same. History Salvaged worked with each, purchasing, bidding in the auction and making donations for these historic boardwalk Witness Woods®.
Subsequently, we were also able to acquire several of New York's famed Coney Island Boards.
We are proud of all of our boardwalk items and the fact that we have been able to turn some small pieces of "memories" and "good times" into an assortment of pens, ornaments, magnets, key chains, bottle stoppers, ice cream scoops and more, that will be cherished for a lifetime, while at the same time doing our small part to help Restore the Shore!
